Unspoilt and less travelled, Kidepo Valley National Park will appeal to intrepid travellers looking to get off the beaten track. The remote north-western region of Uganda bordering Kenya and Sudan hosts semi-arid valleys, distant mountains and open savannahs, attracting a huge 475 bird species. Larger wildlife includes Savannah elephant, lion, giraffe, buffalo, cheetah and ostrich.
The region’s two rivers (Kidepo and Narus) disappear in the dry season, leaving sporadic pools of water that provide the area’s best game viewing in the Narus Valley. Kidepo is the third largest national park in Uganda and the top choice for a true wilderness experience. The choice of an costly flight or very long road transfer will put off many but those that include Kidepo will come back singing its praises!
